Recipes and Reviews
With years of experience in the kitchen cooking for my family, I've created a collection of nacho fries recipes perfect for any occasion. Here are a couple of my top recipes that have never let me down. Each one reflects the joy of sharing food and the memories that can be created around the table.
My Favourite Recipe
The first recipe is very simple, and that’s what I love about it! Nacho Fries by Ashley Fehr has been a favourite of mine for years. It sticks to tradition while showing how fast you can prepare this comforting dish for your whole family. The familiar flavours and ease of preparation makes it my go-to choice for quick dinners and cozy nights. This recipe is just like the nacho fries my mom would make for me, each bite brings back the feeling of being home, around her warmth and care.
This recipe features all the classic ingredients that make nacho fries so irresistible.
- Crinkle-cut French fries (fresh or frozen)
- Ground beef
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Fresh peppers
- A medium onion
- Taco seasoning
- Fresh green onion
An optional ingredient for those who love some heat is jalapeños. I’ve made it with and without spice, it’s delicious either way!
What I like the most about this recipe is how quickly it comes together. Within just 15-20 minutes. From my experience, the longest it takes to make this meal is about 30 minutes. That saves a lot of time on those busy nights. I usually try to prep ahead by chopping the veggies and shredding the cheese beforehand, making the cooking time as quick and easy as possible. You can conveniently cook the fries and seasoned beef at the same time, then it only takes a few more minutes to add the toppings and let them melt together. This means you can spend less time in the kitchen and more of it enjoying the company of your friends and family.
Another One of my Favourites
When making nacho fries for special occasions, the recipe I reach for is Carne Asada Nacho Fries by Gaby Dalkin. This is a more complex recipe that elevates the comfort food, which means it’s much more time-consuming but definitely worth it! Instead of using the typical ground beef, this is a carne asada version, as the name suggests. This version intensifies the flavour and texture of the nacho fries in a way you will never forget, I know I haven’t!
The ingredients are really what makes this dish stand out, it truly goes all out on the toppings. This recipe asks for additions like creamy guacamole, fresh pico de gallo, sour cream, cilantro, a blend of cheddar and pepperjack cheese, and a beautiful flank steak. When I make this dish, I try to make homemade potato wedges like the recipe suggests, but when I’m in a pinch for time, I still use frozen options.
The most time-consuming part of this recipe is the carne asada, which requires marinating the steak for at least 4-5 hours before cooking. When I prepare the carne asada, I like to keep the meat in the marinade until just before it goes on the grill to maximize the flavour. Don’t forget this step, the meat is the star of the show in this recipe.
Once the meat and wedges are done, I cover the fries with chopped carne asada and the cheese blend, then place it back into the oven until the cheese is melted. After you take it out of the oven add the rest of your toppings, the veggies and sauces, then enjoy it with all your guests. I’ve always received such great compliments about this dish during birthdays and get-togethers. They all rave about how delicious it is, and seeing how much they smile while they dig in makes the effort completely worth it. It always brings my friends and family together in my favourite way.
